Start work for the first time

If you don’t have a job but are keen to get one, we can offer you personal support to help you progress towards and into work.

The first and most important step is for you to get in touch with us.

We then chat through with you what you consider are your strengths and what you need to work on.  After that we will discuss the different types of support that are available and that you are ready for.

You will be supported by a key worker throughout your journey who will review your personal circumstances.  Together with you they will draw up an action plan tailored to your particular needs to ensure you receive the right support at the right time for you.

Depending on your interests and your experience, the types of support we can offer includes but is not limited to:

  • Confidence and motivation
  • Volunteering
  • Work experience, including training
  • Helping you to explore different careers if you are not sure what you would like to do yet – including work tasters and employer information sessions
  • Specific training and qualifications related to your employment journey
  • Grants to employers to secure you a job
  • Helping with writing your CV, applying for jobs and mock interviews.

Work can help provide a sustainable route out of poverty.  In addition to the financial value, work can also offer many other benefits including:

  • meeting new people and developing social networks
  • boosting self-esteem, confidence, motivation and well-being
  • providing a sense of purpose and identity; and
  • creating positive role models for young people

If you are interested in self-employment, support may be available for you to undertake the skills or qualifications needed to set up your own business.  We can also put you in touch with Business Gateway who can provide additional support and guidance including information on start-up funding.

Everyone’s journey will be unique to them, but the first step is to get in touch and one of our team will get back to you to discuss next steps.
