Support for working parents

A key priority for Work. Life. Highland is to reduce levels of child poverty. We have a dedicated offer for low-income working families to support progression to better paid work, or work which better suits your circumstances.

We can provide access to vocational skills, accredited training, or industry certification. This can enable career progression to help boost earning potential and lead to increased household income.

You will be supported by a key worker who will review your personal circumstances.  Together with you they will draw up an action plan tailored to your particular needs to ensure you receive the right support.

Support is available to in-work parents with a particular focus on the following priority family groups:

  • lone parents
  • parents or children with a disability
  • parents with 3 or more children
  • parents from a minority ethnic background
  • parents with youngest child under 1
  • families with a parent under 25 years

If you are interested in self-employment, support may be available for you to undertake the skills or qualifications needed to set up your own business.  We can also put you in touch with Business Gateway who can provide additional support and guidance including information on start-up funding.
